Guardianships and Conservatorship
If you do not complete the necessary documents prior to an accident, illness or incapacity, the court may need to appoint a guardian or conservator to administer your affairs.
A conservator is a person appointed to handle your financial affairs and a guardian makes health care decisions when you are no longer able to do so. Conservators and guardians are under court supervision and they must make annual reports to the court. Completing a Power of Attorney and Health Care Directive now usually avoids the time and expense of court involvement of a guardianship or conservatorship.
